Marcegaglia to construct pickling & galvanizing lines

Italian steelmaker Marcegaglia has initiated the construction of its new pickling and galvanizing lines in Ravenna. The company built new warehouses for the new pickling line which will have an annual capacity of 1.5 million tons. The construction of the hot dipped galvanizing line (HDG) will be done by Danieli. Furthermore, the construction of the HDG line and pickling line are scheduled to complete in a year and 15 months respectively. The production is expected to start at the end of 2004 or the beginning of 2005. With the new lines, the company will increase the annual production to 2.5 million tons from 1.5 million tons. Also, the pickling capacity will increase to 2.5 million tons per annum. As cold rolled capacity is 1.5 million tons per annum, around 500'00 tons is galvanized and the other 500'000 tons used as pickled strip. The material in the range of 0.3-1.2 mm will be produced at the new HDG line while the existing HDG line produces in the range of 0.5-3 mm.
