Malaysia’s vehicle sales up 20.4%

Malaysia's motor vehicle sales rose 20.4% year on year to 36'904 units in February 2005, says the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). MAA attributes the affirmative growth to a rush of customer purchases in anticipation of higher car prices caused by new duties in 2005. Passenger car sales rose from 23'686 units in February 2004 to 26'682 units in February 2005. Commercial vehicle sales increased from 6'967 units to 10'222 units. Meanwhile, vehicle production rose year on year from 29'426 to 38'369 units in February 2005. Domestic passenger cars and commercial vehicles accounted for 27'946 units of the total production. Sales volume is expected to increase further in March due to the greater number of working days.
