Malaysian IPI shows sound growth in 2004

Malaysia's 2004 industrial production index (IPI) increased 11.2% year-on-year to 229.5, disclosed Malaysia's Department of Statistics. The expansion occurred thanks to positive changes in the indices of all sectors: the Manufacturing Sector by 12.6% (to 254.6 from 226.1); the Electricity Sector by 8.3% (to 261.7 from 241.7); and the Mining Sector by 5.8% (to 139.2 from 131.6). Fabricated metal products except machinery & equipment increased 29.1% from 216.5 to 279.4. Electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances & supplies increased 19.5% from 286.3 to 342.2. Miscellaneous production of petroleum & coal increased 17.4% from 159.6 to 187.3.
