Missouri-based Leggett & Platt Inc. informed Florida state officials last week that it plans to close its drawn steel wire facility in Jacksonville, Florida by the end of the year. Just over 100 jobs will be affected.

The notice was filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act, with the company citing a consolidation of operations as the reason for the closure.

The company plans to begin laying off employees on November 22 and continue through the end of the year; a small number will be retained for cleanup operations into the first quarter of 2020.

In total, Leggett & Platt employs 23,000 people in 145 manufacturing facilities in 18 countries, and the company reported revenue of $2.4 billion and earnings of $147.4 million in the first half of 2019.
