Lebedinskiy GOK’s new HBI-3 plant supplied by Primetals completes performance test

UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that the new 1.8 million metric ton per year Midrex hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant (HBI-3 plant) supplied by a consortium of Primetals Technologies and US-based DRI technology supplier Midrex Technologies at Russian leading global iron ore and HBI producer Metalloinvest’s Lebedinsky GOK (LGOK) subsidiary in Gubkin, Russia, has successfully completed the performance guarantee test.

Primetals Technologies stated that the new plant will increase Metalloinvest’s HBI production capabilities to 4.5 million metric tons per year, strengthening its leadership in commercial HBI and boosting its world market share to more than 40 percent. The feed for the new HBI plant consists of pellets produced from Lebedinsky GOK iron ore.
