Latvian joint-stock company KVV Liepajas metalurgs has already started operating its rolling mill in test mode, company board member Igors Kovalenko has stated.

KVV Liepajas metalurgs has already laid the groundwork to resume production at its rolling mill. 221 employees have already been reinstated in their jobs.

''This is a historic moment for our employees, as well as for Liepaja and Latvia as a whole, as the Baltic region's largest metallurgical company is gradually beginning to resume production,'' Mr. Kovalenko remarked.

"At the same time, the company is busy with raw material procurements, acquisition of export markets, as well as preparatory work to resume operations in the steel mill," Kovalenko explained.

Ukrainian company KVV Group had won the Liepajas metalurgs tender and the right to acquire the metallurgical plant for €107 million. KVV Group had said it intended to invest an additional €30 million in Liepajas metalurgs and resume production in 2015.

KVV Liepajas metalurgs will employ no more than 1,300-1,400 people. The plant's rolling mill will begin to operate in February and the electric steel melting furnace will start operating in March, Kovalenko had said previously.
