Yu Wenli, head of the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration in the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning, has announced the discovery of around 880 million mt of limestone reserves, including 250 million mt of limestone flux, at the city of Lingyuan in Liaoning. Limestone flux is an essential raw material for the production of iron from iron ore.

Large steel enterprises based in Liaoning Province, such as Anshan Steel, Benxi Steel, Fushun Special Steel and others, require large amounts of limestone annually. It is expected that this latest discovery will provide sufficient limestone to meet the needs of the steel industry in the province.
