Illinois-based Lapham-Hickey Steel Corporation has acquired the Thompson Companies, including the Thompson Dayton Steel Service Centers. Founded in 1922, Thompson operates five flat-rolled production facilities, in Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan, and two in Ohio.
“Strategically, the acquisition of Thompson Dayton complements our existing footprint. It gives us the opportunity to more competitively supply flat roll consumers in the Indiana and Ohio markets, as well as the Southeast marketplace where we are seeing continued growth from our customers,” said Will Hickey, chief commercial officer of Lapham-Hickey Steel. “Additionally, the acquisition expands our processing capabilities from our Chicago and Philadelphia locations.”
All Thompson Dayton locations will continue to operate under the Thompson Dayton name with their established sales and operating teams.
Lapham-Hickey, founded in 1926, is a fourth-generation family owned service center with estimated annual revenues of $280-300 million. It was the 35th-largest service center company in North America in Metal Center News’ most recent Top 50.
