Anhui Province-based Chinese steelmaker Langxi County Hongtai Steel Co., Ltd will start to construct a 128 mt electric arc furnace (EAF) in May this year, as announced by Anhui Economic and Information Commission. The EAF, which will have an annual capacity of 980,000 mt, will begin production operations in May 2020. According to China’s capacity replacement rules, at the same time Langxi County Hongtai Steel will eliminate two 70 mt EAFs, with a total annual production capacity of 1.0 million mt, with these EAFs scheduled to be dismantled in April-May 2020.
