Kobe Steel to build DRI plant for Qatar Steel

Japan's Kobe Steel announced that it agreed to terms with Qatar Steel Company (QASCO) to install a 1.5 million ton Midrex DRI (direct reduced iron) plant at QASCO's mill in Mesaieed, UAE. The new DRI plant will increase the existing DRI capacity of 780'000 tons to 2.3 million tons. The $267.4 million project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.
