In 2019, Kazakhstan’s steel production totalled 4.47 million mt, increasing by 11.4 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In December last year, 370,242 mt of steel were produced in the country, down 3.2 percent month on month, but almost six times more compared to December 2018.

In the ferroalloys segment, the situation has been positive as well. Kazakhstan managed to increase its ferroalloy production by 6.2 percent year on year to 2.22 million mt in 2019, most probably supported by improved export sales.

Meanwhile, flats output in Kazakhstan in 2019 decreased by 20 percent year on year to 2.03 million mt. In particular, the country’s presence in the export markets has been weaker, while supplies to Iran have dried up completely due to sanctions, SteelOrbis understands.
