Kazakhstan’s crude steel output down 15.2 percent in Jan-Sept

According to the data released by the Republic of Kazakhstan's Agency of Statistics, in the first nine months of 2009 the country registered a 15.2 percent decrease in its crude steel production and a 3.3 percent decrease in its production of flat rolled steel (including a 3.2 percent decline in galvanized steel, but a 1.5 percent increase in tinplate), all compared to the data for January-September 2008. The respective figures in metric tons were 2.99 million and 2.27 million (including 425,859 for galvanized steel and 150,668 for tinplate).
 
During the first nine months of 2009, Kazakhstan's output of ferroalloys declined by 20.8 percent year on year to 1.03 million mt.

Meanwhile, during the period in question Kazakhstan exported 579,600 mt of ferroalloys - down 34 percent, for a value of $628.8 million - down 67.4 percent, and 1.7 million mt of flat rolled steel, including tinplate - down 11 percent, for a value of $831.2 million - down 49.7 percent, all compared to January-September 2008.
