The government of Kazakhstan is considering the creation of a national mining company to be called Tau-Ken Samruk, which will manage the government's shares in publicly-traded companies Kazakhmys and ENRC, and also its stakes in mining projects in Kazakhstan. The new enterprise will also incorporate the national nuclear company Kazatomprom.

The national mining company project was prepared by the national welfare fund Samurk-Kazyna, and includes the implementation of 11 investment projects jointly with the respective players in the Kazakh chemical market. The total cost of these projects amounts to over $3.7 billion. The projects are scheduled to be realized two or three years after financial issues have been dealt with.

According to local analysts, the new company will operate similarly to KazMunaiGas, which acts on behalf of the government in the oil sector.
