Kardemir’s crude steel output up 21.9 percent in January-May

Turkish integrated long steel producer Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Kardemir) has announced that in the January-May period of the current year its crude steel production increased by 21.9 percent to 1.01 million mt and its pig iron production rose by 23.3 percent to 921.538 mt, both compared to the same period of 2016. 
 
In the first five months, the company’s total rail, section and angle production amounted to 179,824 mt, up 33.9 percent year on year, while its total finished steel production increased by 38.2 percent year on year to 549,652 mt. Meanwhile, in the given period, the company produced 92,802 mt of bar-in-coil at its new rod and coil mill.
 
Kardemir stated that in the current year it plans to achieve a crude steel production of 2.45 million mt.
