India’s Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) has received approval as a ‘regular supplier’ from national transporter Indian Railways (IR), an Indian government official has said.
The official said that the official status as a regular supplier to IR followed approval by Research and Development Organization (RDSO) operating under the ministry of rails of field performance trials of UIC 60 kg, 880 Grade Prime (Class A) steel rails produced by JSPL’s steel mill located at Raigarh in central India.
A statement by IR said that the rails produced by JSPL had been found suitable for use by IR and so it has been approved as a ‘regular supplier’ as not many steel mills in the world produce this grade of rails.
Until now, only state-run Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) was a regular supplier of steel rails to the national transporter.
Apart from 880 Grade Prime rails, JSPL has also commenced supplies of 1080 grade Head Hardened rails to several urban metro rail projects in the country. RDSO has already approved specifications of JSPL’s 1080 Grade HH rails.
