Jindal Steel and Power gets conditional approval for Indian steel and energy project

Indian steelmaker Jindal Steel and Power Limited has announced that the country's ministry of environment and forests has given a conditional go-ahead to its 6 million mt per annum integrated steel plant and 1,000 MW captive power plant projects to be implemented in Kerjang, Angul in the state of Orissa.
 
According to a company release, the directions to this effect were posted on the ministry website on February 14, with certain environmental conditions. Jindal said that it will comply with all directions given in the communication.
 
Jindal is planning to invest INR 500 billion to set up a 12.5 million mt integrated steel plant and 2600 MW captive power plant in Orissa in phases. The steelmaker is also investing around INR 450 billion on a coal-to-liquid project in the state to produce an estimated 4.0 million mt of crude oil using environment-friendly indirect coal liquefaction technology from German engineering and construction company Lurgi.
