Jiangxi-based mill to replace two EAFs by a single bigger unit in 2020

The Industry and Information Technology Department of China’s Jiangxi Province has announced that Jiangxi-based Ji’an Iron and Steel Company is planning to begin the construction of one 130 mt electric arc furnace in December 2019, which are expected to be put into operation by the end of 2020. The new equipment will add one million mt of steelmaking capacity.

At the same time, Shaan Steel Longsteel Company will close 1.1 million mt of steelmaking capacity, demolishing two 75 mt electric arc furnaces before the end of 2020. About 1.05 million mt of this amount will be used in the replacement by the abovementioned new capacity, while other 95,000 mt per year will be held by the company for future use.
