Japan's JFE Steel Corporation has lately announced that two of its EAF-based steel mills were severely damaged by the March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Located in the northeastern part of Japan, JFE mills JFE Bars & Shapes and Tohoku Steel produced 1.2 million mt and 0.3 million mt of steel respectively in 2009. JFE Bars & Shapes only accounts for four to five percent of JFE's total annual production output, and so the overall output of JFE is not significantly affected.
