JFE Steel pulls out of steel project in Vietnam

Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation has announced that it has discontinued its feasibility study of a project to build and operate an integrated steelworks in Vietnam. JFE Steel also cancelled its memorandum of understanding with Taiwan-based E United Group which is implementing the project.
 
In March 2012, JFE Steel signed a memorandum of understanding with the Taiwanese group to study the feasibility of building and operating an integrated steelworks in Vietnam. The study initially was to examine the feasibility of building and launching by 2016 a steelworks with an annual capacity of 3.5 million mt, consisting mainly of steel sheets.
