Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation has held the opening ceremony for Summit Steel Turkey (SST), its new mill in Bursa. This new mill will produce transformer steel.

SST plant manager Takahiro Shima cited Turkey’s proximity to Europe and shipping opportunities at Gemlik and Yalova ports as the reasons why they chose Turkey and Bursa for their new investment.

Masato Ishida, general manager for Europe, Middle East, Africa and CIS, said that Turkey will be Sumitomo’s third transformer steel center among 33 steel service centers worldwide.
