According to statistics released by
Japan's Ministry of Finance,
Japan's ferrous
scrap exports totaled 616,555 metric tons in November this year, rising by 39.5 percent month on month and up 18 percent compared to November 2010.
In November,
Japan's ferrous
scrap exports to China increased by 35.9 percent month on month to 254,800 metric tons, while a rise of 11.5 percent was registered compared to November 2010. South Korea imported 341,819 metric tons from
Japan in November this year, increasing 39 percent month on month and up 35.3 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-November period of 2011,
Japan's
scrap exports amounted to 4.82 million metric tons, declining by 18.4 percent year on year. After the earthquake which hit
Japan in March 11, month-on-month decreases were recorded in the country's
scrap exports. Even though increases on month-on-month basis were seen in June, July and August,
Japan's
scrap export volume again indicated downward movement in September and October.
In the first 11 months of the year, Japanese
scrap exports to China totaled 2.15 million metric tons, while exports to South Korea amounted to 2.57 million metric tons, decreasing by 11.3 percent and down 17 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
