According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in October this year increased by 17.2 percent on tonnage basis compared to September, rising to 22 ships, compared to 20 ships recorded in September, totaling 890,300 gross tons, all bulk carriers. In October last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled three ships amounting to 124,800 gross tons.
In the first ten months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 164 ships with an aggregate of 7.95 million gross tons, up 174.6 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in October this year Japan delivered 14 ships for export, totaling 791,420 gross tons, falling from 19 ships totaling 863,425 gross tons recorded in September. In October 2016, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 15 ships with 584,122 gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-October period of the current year, Japan delivered 229 ships for export, totaling 10.1 million gross tons, falling by 3.9 percent year on year.
