According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April this year decreased by 44.9 percent on tonnage basis compared to March, falling to 16 ships, compared to 27 ships recorded in March, totaling 848,400 gross tons, consisting of 13 bulk carriers. In April last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled six ships amounting to 262,350 gross tons.
In the first four months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 57 ships with an aggregate of 3.2 million gross tons, up 107.4 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in April this year Japan delivered 19 ships for export, totaling 890,259 gross tons, falling from 32 ships totaling 1.27 million gross tons recorded in March. In April 2016, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 23 ships with 836,400 gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-April period of the current year, Japan delivered 121 ships for export, totaling 4.87 million gross tons, falling by 13 percent year on year.
