Japan's new ship export orders decrease in May from April

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in May this year decreased by 6.1 percent on tonnage basis compared to April, remaining stable at 12 ships, compared to 12 ships recorded in April, totaling 500,400 gross tons, including 11 bulk carriers and one general cargo ship.

In the first five months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 80 ships with an aggregate of 3.89 million gross tons, up 10.3 percent year on year.

On the other hand, in May this year Japan delivered 17 ships for export, totaling 587,398 gross tons, compared to 17 ships totaling 918,391 gross tons recorded in April.

Meanwhile, in the January-May period of the current year, Japan delivered 92 ships for export, totaling 4.46 million gross tons, falling by 23 percent year on year.
