Japan's HR steel strip shipments down 11.4 percent in January

In January this year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet shipments remained unchanged compared to December 2014 and were up 0.3 percent on year-on-year basis, amounting to 890,696 metric tons. 72 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 28 percent were made to the export markets, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. In January, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 878,325 mt, down one percent month on month and falling five percent year on year.
 
In January, Japan's hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.43 million mt, down 11.4 percent from the previous month and decreasing by 0.9 percent year on year. 30 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 70 percent were made to the export markets. In January, Japan's hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.53 million mt, up 4.34 percent month on month and rising by 1.5 percent year on year.
