Japan's domestic steel product orders up 2.6 percent in January-August

In August this year, steel product orders, including specialty steels, booked by domestic sectors in Japan amounted to 4.63 million metric tons, down one percent compared to July and rising 0.4 percent year on year, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Association (JISF). Meanwhile, in the January-August period of this year, domestic steel product orders in Japan increased by 2.6 percent year on year to 36.77 million metric tons.

In August, ordinary steel product orders in Japan booked by the domestic construction sector increased by 4.5 percent to 945,545 metric tons, while steel product orders including special steel orders booked by the Japanese automotive sector amounted to 1.17 million metric tons, up 0.2 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Japan's shipbuilding industry booked 306,006 metric tons of ordinary steel products in the given month, down 18 percent compared to the same month of 2016.
