Japanese steel exports switch to downtrend in October

In October this year, steel exports from Japan decreased by 8.5 percent year on year and were down seven percent month on month, amounting to 2.83 million mt, according to the data published by Japan’s Ministry of Finance.

In the given month, Japanese steel exports to Asia registered a decline again after the uptrend seen in the previous month, with Asia still remaining the number one export market for the Far Eastern country. Japan’s steel exports to Asia in October decreased by 10.1 percent year on year to 2.24 million mt, while falling 7.4 percent compared to the previous month. Following Asia, the ASEAN countries received 984,000 mt of steel shipments from Japan, down 10.1 percent year on year and down 3.5 percent month on month.

Meanwhile, Japanese steel exports to the Middle East continued to see declines, falling by 48.3 percent month on month to 47,000 mt in the given month, but still rising by 43.4 percent year on year.
