Japanese auto output up 1.3 percent in January-May

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in May this year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 725,216 units, rising by 4.6 percent compared to the same month of 2017. Meanwhile, in the January-May period of 2018, Japanese automobile production increased by 1.3 percent year on year to 4,037,629 units.

Domestic automobile sales in May this year in Japan stood at 371,864 vehicles, down 0.2 percent as compared with the same month of 2017. Meanwhile, in the January-May period of this year domestic automobile sales in Japan decreased by 1.1 percent year on year to 2,278,713 units.

In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in May amounted to 344,875 units, up by 7.7 percent year on year. In the first five months of 2018, Japanese automobile exports increased by 9.2 year on year to 1,969,400 mt.
