Japanese auto output down 0.3 percent in August

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in August this year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 693,977 units, falling by 0.3 percent compared to the same month of 2017. Meanwhile, in the January-August period of 2018, Japanese automobile production remained almost stable at 6,355,656 units on year-on-year basis.

Domestic automobile sales in August this year in Japan stood at 364,218 vehicles, up by 2.5 percent as compared with the same month of 2017. Meanwhile, in the January-August period of this year domestic automobile sales in Japan decreased by 0.8 percent year on year to 3,538,229 units.

In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in August amounted to 371,612 units, up by 3.3 percent year on year. In the first eight months of this year, Japanese automobile exports increased by 4.5 percent year on year to 3,133,475 mt.
