Japan increases crude steel output in March

Japan's crude steel production increased six percent year on year to 10.3 million metric tons in March 2007, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) announced on Thursday, April 19.

The production of specialty steel used in motor vehicles and machinery grew five percent to 2.3 million metric tons in March. In addition, output of ordinary steel amounted to 7.95 million metric tons, up 6.3 percent year on year.  

For the first three months of 2007, Japanese crude steel production reached 29.5 million metric tons, up 5.4 percent year on year.
