Japan's crude steel production increased 2.9 percent year on year to 9.98 million metric tons in June 2007, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) announced on Thursday, July 19.
The production of specialty steel used in motor vehicles and machinery grew 3.1 percent to 2.17 million metric tons in June. In addition, output of ordinary steel amounted to 7.81 million metric tons, up 2.9 percent year on year.
For the first six months of 2007, Japanese crude steel production reached 59.4 million metric tons, up 4.3 percent year on year.
