Japan's crude steel production increased 4.1 percent year on year to 9.74 million metric tons in April 2007, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) announced on Monday, May 21.
The production of specialty steel used in motor vehicles and machinery grew 0.1 percent to 2.08 million metric tons in April. In addition, output of ordinary steel amounted to 7.66 million metric tons, up 5.3 percent year on year.
For the first four months of 2007, Japanese crude steel production reached 39.3 million metric tons, up 5.1 percent year on year.
