Japan eyes 1.9% rise in vehicle sales

The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) disclosed that sales of cars, trucks and buses in Japan are expected to increase 1.9% to 5.94 million units in the fiscal year that will end March 31, 2006. Sales of compact vehicles are projected to drop 2.1% to 1.84 million units during the same period. JAMA indicated that it expects the market to grow on the strength of new models.
