Japan exports over 550,000 mt of ferrous scrap to China in July

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, the country's ferrous scrap exports totaled 863,800 metric tons in July, increasing by 72.7 percent year on year.

In July this year, Japan's major ferrous scrap export market was China, with 554,300 metric tons of scrap exports, followed by South Korea with 245,900 metric tons.

On the other hand, in the January-July period Japan exported 6.42 million metric tons of ferrous scrap, up 78.59 percent year on year. In the period in question, China increased its ferrous scrap imports from Japan by 2.3 percent to 3.59 million metric tons, while South Korea imported 2.34 million metric tons of ferrous scrap from Japan, up by 26.4 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
