Italy's steel exports to non-EU countries down 1.9 percent in Jan-May

In the January-May period this year, Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries totaled 5.093 million metric tons, up 11.7 percent, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations amounted to 1.578 million metric tons, down 1.9 percent, both year on year, as announced by Italian steel producers association Federacciai.

In particular, import of long products from non-EU countries in the first five months of 2018 increased by 55.6 percent year on year, mainly due to an increase of wire rod imports, which were up 19.4 percent year on year to 160,000 mt. Flat steel imports in the same period rose by 6.7 percent year on year.

Concerning Italian exports to non-EU countries in the first five months of 2018, long product exports increased by 6.7 percent, while flat product exports decreased by 17.8 percent, year on year. In particular, rebar exports rose by 60.5 percent to 236,000 mt, while steel coil exports decreased by 31.7 percent to 43,000 mt, year on year.
