Italy’s long steel output continues to indicate improvement

Italy’s long steel output amounted to 862,000 mt in January this year, up 2.7 percent year on year, according to the latest figures provided by Italian steel producers association Federacciai. This is the second consecutive slight year-on-year increase, following the decreases recorded in the previous 13 months on year-on-year basis.
 
In the final months of last year, the year-on-year decrease rate in Italian long steel production fell from 16.4 percent in September to 11.8 percent in October and 5.1 percent in November, while an increase of 1.8 percent was recorded in December as compared to December 2011.
 
In the fourth quarter of 2012, Italy’s long steel output decreased by 6.5 percent year on year, compared to a decrease of 15.5 percent on year-on-year basis in the third quarter of the same year.
