Italy sees bigger decrease than expected in GDP for Q2

According to the Italian national statistics institute Istat, in the second quarter of the current year Italy's seasonally and calendar adjusted GDP decreased 0.8 percent compared to the first quarter this year and was down 2.6 percent compared to the corresponding quarter of 2011. In the first half of this year, Italian GDP went down by 2.1 percent year on year.

Istat had previously estimated that Italian GDP in the second quarter would fall 0.7 percent quarter on quarter and 2.5 percent year on year.
