Italian industrial production up one percent in April from March

Italian industrial production continued its recovery in April this year, increasing by one percent month on month and rising by 3.7 percent year on year. In March, the Italian industrial production index recorded 0.4 percent growth on month-on-month basis and was up 3.1 percent compared to the same month last year.


According to the figures posted by ISTAT, Italy's national statistics office, the industrial sectors leading the revival in March were machine building and plantmaking (+14.4 percent), metallurgy and metal product manufacturing (+7.9 percent) and rubber/plastic product production (+nine percent) - all comparisons are with April 2010.


In the first four months this year, the Italian industrial production index rose by 2.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
