Italian crude steel output increases by 1.7 percent in 2018

Italian crude steel output exceeded 24 million mt in 2018 and was higher than the 2017 output, even though it decreased both in November and December on year-on-year basis. According to the Italian steel producers association Federacciai, Italian crude steel production last year amounted to 24.475 million metric tons, rising by 1.7 percent compared to 2017.

In comparison, Italian crude steel output had totaled 24.069 million mt in 2017, 23.372 million mt in 2016, 22.018  million mt in 2015, 23.715 million mt in 2014, 24.091 million mt in 2013 and 27.251 million mt in 2012.

In December last year, crude steel production in Italy amounted to 1.655 million metric tons, down 7.4 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the January-November period of 2018, Italy's long steel output amounted to 11.6 million metric tons, increasing by 4.3 percent, while Italian flat steel output totaled 10.226 million metric tons, decreasing by 1.6 percent, both year on year.
