ISG successfully launches HBI facility in Trinidad & Tobago

According to the statement released by International Steel Group (ISG), the company has successfully launched its hot briquetted iron (HBI) facility in Trinidad & Tobago. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, ISG acquired the mill from Cliffs and Associates Limited (CAL) in July 2004. ISG aimed to stabilize its raw material supply through this facility. The HBI plant, which was acquired for $8 million in cash, plus assumed liabilities, has an annual production capacity of 500'000 mts. As HBI will increase the efficiency of the blast furnace, and thereby reduce the consumption of coke, it will reduce raw material costs.
