In the January-May period of the current year, the steelmaking subsidiaries of Ukrainian steel producer Industrial Union of Donbass (ISD) produced a total of 2.777 million mt of pig iron, up eight percent compared to the same period of last year. In addition, the subsidiaries' crude steel output in the given period increased by five percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010, rising to 2.930 million mt. In the first five months of 2011, ISD companies registered a nine percent increase in their finished steel production year on year to 2.858 million mt, while their overall sinter output went up by four percent year on year to 3.132 million mt.
In particular, in January-May, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) saw a six percent increase in its crude steel production to 1.562 million mt and a 16 percent increase in its finished steel production to 1.576 million mt.
The crude steel output of Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works named after F. Dzerzhinsky (DMKD) in the given period increased by three percent year on year to 1.368 million mt, while its finished steel output increased by two percent year on year to 1.282 million mt.
Alchevsk Coking Plant saw its coke production fall by 18 percent year on year to 1.168 million mt in January-May 2011.
In the first five months of 2011, Dniepropetrovsk Tube Works increased its steel pipe production by 39 percent year on year to 46,300 mt.
