ISA demands government to work on a long-term policy
Indian Steel Alliance (ISA), representing four hot rolled coil producers in the country, has demanded the government to work on long-term development policy for domestic steel industry.
ISA, with a petition, demanded Planning Commission to adopt a policy that will make steel producers in the country competitive in international markets.
Moreover, ISA, in its petition, underlining the necessity of large-scale
investments to be made, including mining, infrastructure, technology and training of workers for the development of domestic steel industry, stated that certain arrangements should be made in excise and import duties.
ISA currently represents four major hot rolled coil producers in the country, namely Steel Authority of
India Ltd (
SAIL), Essar Steel, Ispat Industries and
Jindal Vijaynagar Steel Ltd. As reported by SteelOrbis back in mid-September, Tata Iron and Steel (TISCO) quit the association.
