Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes up 1.6 percent in April

Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 5.1 million tons in April, an increase of 1.6 percent compared to last year, according to a report today from the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA). Shipments were 5.5 percent ahead of the month’s five-year average.

Year-to-date the iron ore trade stands at 8.2 million tons, a decrease of 2.7 percent compared to the same point in 2018.

Through April, iron ore shipments are 1.3 percent below their five-year average for four months of the year.
