Iron ore shipments from US Great Lakes ports up 2 percent in May

Shipments of iron ore from US Great Lakes ports totaled 6 million tons in May, an increase of nearly 2 percent compared to a year ago, and 4 percent above the month’s 5-year average, according to a report today from the Lake Carriers’ Association.

Year-to-date the iron ore trade stands at 14.5 million tons, an increase of 2.8 percent compared to the same point in 2018.  Iron ore shipments are also 7.7 percent ahead of their 5-year average for five months of the year.
