"The Persian Gulf Mining and Metal Industries Special Zone [PGSEZ] exported 5.5 million mt of iron ore concentrate, fines and lumps and pellets in the last Iranian year [ended March 20, 2010]," Mr. Masoud Hendian, managing director of the special zone, stated recently. In the last Iranian year, Iran exported a total of about 10 million mt of iron ore.
"Gol-e-Gohar, Iran Central Iron Ore and Chador Malu are exporting iron ore via our port," Mr Hendian added, pointing out that the current annual port capacity of 6 million mt will be doubled in future by implementation of a development project. The project in question started two years ago and which has been 50 percent completed.
Persian Gulf Mining and Metal Industries Special Zone is located near Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf.
