Iranian steel producer Mobarakeh Steel Company has announced that in the financial year 2016-17 ended March 20 its steel shipments to the local market increased by 42 percent year on year to 4.72 million mt. In the same period, the company’s hot rolled product sales accounted for around 68 percent of total sales, while cold rolled products accounted for 17 percent, coated products accounted for five percent and semi-finished products, including slabs and bars, accounted for 10 percent of the company’s total sales.
Regarding the increase in local steel shipments in the given year, Mobarakeh Steel’s deputy director for sales and marketing Mahmoud Akbari stated that domestic demand grew in the 12-month period following the start of water transfer projects in the country, the increase in demand in the automotive industry, and the company’s adoption of policies to supply steel sheets (less than 3 mm thick) used in pipes and profiles in the construction sector.
Mr. Akbari also stated that the company plans to sell 7.02 million mt of steel products in the current year, while its subsidiaries are expected to sell 1.4 million mt of slabs and 570,000 mt of coated products this year.
