Iran posts steel output increase in 2007

Iran produced 12 million mt of steel during 2007, Mr.Taghi Bahrami Noshahr, head of the Iranian Steel Producers Association, has stated. He also pointed out that the government sector produced about nine million mt of steel during 2007 - up four percent compared to  2006, while the private sector produced about three million mt in 2007 - up 12 percent compared to 2006.
 
Mr. Bahrami Noshahr  went  on  to  add that  Iran imported  about  10  million  mt  of  steel  in  2007, showing  an increase of 30 percent year on year. The main countries from which Iran imported steel in 2007 were Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and China. Billets accounted for the majority of Iran's steel imports in 2007.
