Iran may regulate steel prices and limit imports

Mr. Taqi Bahrami Noshahr, the head of the Iranian Steel Producers Association has stated that Iran's domestic steel market is currently stable and that planners should adopt appropriate policies to prevent further price fluctuations.

According to the Iron Sellers Union, steel prices within the country have increased by 15 percent since March 21. Although the price rise trend stopped at the beginning of May, due to threats of the government to establish a price floor, a renewed rise was observed in the second half of May.

Currently, as Mr. Noshahr remarked, the Iranian steel market has entered a phase of stability thanks to efforts of the association and the Ministry of Industries and Mines.

Regarding steel imports, Mr. Noshahr stated that the domestic market had no need for imports during the current Iranian year and warned that continuation of imports would cause irreparable damage to domestic steel producers.
