"Iran will produce approximately 14 million metric tons of crude steel in the current [Iranian] year [started on March 21, 2010] while we will attain 20 million metric tons of crude steel production capacity by the end of the current year," Mohammad Masoud Samienejad, Deputy Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines, stated recently.

In the previous Iranian year (March 21, 2009-March 20, 2010), Iran produced approximately 10.96 million metric tons of crude steel. Thus, if Iran manages to realize its production target of 14 million metric tons of crude steel, it will have increased its output by 27.74 percent year on year.
