Late last week, Mr. Ali Sadegi - governor of the Iranian province of Chahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari - visited the construction site of a new steel plant that will be specialized in the production of galvanized sheets for the country's auto industry. Currently the plant is 27 percent completed and has a capacity of 400,000 metric tons a year out of a planned capacity of 800,000 metric tons.
Mr. Sadegi added that in close proximity to the plant another new plant with an annual capacity of 800,000 metric tons of semi-finished products per year is to be built. The production from this semis plant will be used to produce automobile plates. The nearness of these two mills to each other is expected to give a strong boost to the efficiency of both mills and to the further development of the region. According to the governor, the basic preparations for the semis mill have already been made and constructors are soon to be invited to participate in the tender process. Construction work for this plant may begin as soon as the Iranian month of Ordibehesht (21.04.2007-20.05.2007).
